In August last year I signed a film rights contract for “The Widow-Maker” with a Queensland film producer. Having friends active in the industry helped me keep my feet firmly on the ground at the time and I categorized it as a pleasant possibility, rather than a likely one. The story is set in the lead-up to the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island, which runs from October 16th to 18th this year and they will be shooting a promotional trailer of the film that weekend, using actual footage from the track as outside shots. In preparation for casting, I am preparing character breakdowns for all except the heroine, as they’ve already approached her—giving a face to her outside the mind picture in my mind and the cover art prepared by Jinger Heaston. I’ve viewed footage of some of her roles on TV and am impressed. The promotional trailer is used to attract shooting funds for the film itself, so we are a long, long way, from any final wrap and even further from any premiere screening, but (to misquote A B “Banjo” Paterson) “There’s movement at the studio…”
